Top Gun Maverick
Top Gun: Maverick has grossed an incredible $248 million (Rs 1,922 crore) at the global box office in three days since its May 27 release date, establishing itself as a historic film for starring actor Tom Cruise. Half of this, or $124 million, comes from the United States and Canada, where it has outpaced the 2005 movie War of the Worlds ($64 million) and the action-packed spy flick Mission: Impossible – Fallout ($61 million) to become the best debut of his career. Obviously, this number includes paid previews. The remaining 62 collections are from locales outside the United States and Canada.
Top Gun: Maverick, distributed by Paramount Pictures, was the top pick of moviegoers in the United Kingdom, where it grossed $19.4 million from 735 theaters. In markets such as France ($11.7 million), Australia ($10.7 million), Brazil ($5.3 million), the Netherlands ($2.4 million), Sweden ($2.2 million), the Middle East ($6.3 million), Belgium ($1.7 million), New Zealand ($1.4 million), Poland ($1.2 million), Argentina ($1.2 million), Finland ($1.1 million), and Portugal ($770,000), the action film broke records for a Tom Cruise film.
President of Paramount’s domestic distribution, Chris Aronson, said in a prepared statement, “I’m thrilled for everyone” (associated with Top Gun: Maverick). I am delighted for the company, Tom, and the filmmakers.”
Nevertheless, Top Gun: Maverick has not performed as well as anticipated in India, where it grossed over 15 crore rupees in its first three days. Analysts believe that the success of the horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which remains strong in its second week, may have impacted its performance.
Given the popularity of the franchise, it is probable that Top Gun: Maverick will post great weekday statistics. It may, however, slow down after the June 10 release of the science-fiction adventure film Jurassic World: Dominion.
The sequel to Top Gun is directed by Joseph Kosinski, whose previous works include the science-fiction action film Tron: Legacy and the action-adventure film Oblivion, working from a script written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie. In addition to Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, and Lewis Pullman also appear in Top Gun: Maverick. The picture is currently in theaters worldwide.
